Honduras, C.A. Day 5

Here is the picture I promised! Just too cute for words!
We are having a great week. I can't believe we only have one more day until we return home. The guys have worked hard and were able to help Pastor Jesus and his friend put stove pipes in all the homes that needed them in Santa Cruz. There were 32 homes that received a new stove pipe and comal (cooking surface). Hopefully, they will no longer have the black smoke filling their homes (and their lungs) as they cook. The men were able to get to know the families better. One family told Jay that they considered us family!
The girls have been busy as well! We have worked in the medical clinic on two different days seeing some patients that walked about 5 hours to get medical care. The men and women all complain of "bone pain". Well, if I was 62 years old and walked for 5 hours, I believe my bones would ache too! We also helped fill over 500 medicine bottles with cough syrup! There is so much to be done as a missionary! Ms. Lavearn is the nurse, doctor, and pharmacist!
Even though we haven't walked 5 hours, the girls did some walking as well! Yesterday, we walked a couple of miles to the hospital to visit some ladies that are in an area that is for women waiting to have their babies. They have traveled 2 hours or more down from the mountains so that they will be here when the time comes for the baby to be delivered. We met them the day prior and found out that they had to buy their own food while they waited there. We ended up purchasing some beans, eggs, and flour to give them, along with the Kids Against Hunger food bags. It was great to get to share the food with them and it allowed us the opportunity to pray with them for their babies. I also found a way to connect with them as a mom by showing them a picture of Hannan. They loved seeing my baby!
But on to walking...us girls decided to try to hike down the mountain today because the guys talked about how hard it was. We were determined to make it down. We only got about 1/4 of the way down today because Calixta, Pastor Jesus' wife, was worried that I wouldn't make it back up! I'm glad she kept us from trekking the rest of the way, because she is probably right!
So much has happened that it is hard to tell it all! One more little thing I will add is that I was so thankful the other night to see my husband walk through the mission house door! It began to rain while they were up on the mountain and he and the youngest two guys on our team got stuck in the mud in Ms. Lavearn's truck. Well, if they had had a cell phone or the rest of the team had still been on the mountain, it may not have been a big deal, but they were all alone and no way to know how to get home! Thankfully, the other guys decided to travel the hour back up the mountain and get them so that they wouldn't have to be up on the mountain all night!
God reminded me however, that we are never alone! He is ALWAYS with us! He is so good to never leave us stranded or stuck in the mud! He picks us up, cleans us off, and stays by our side! Thank you Lord! So much more, but enough for now!
